This year, I have made a very special commitment. Not to one special someone – but this commitment will be meaningful for so many people beyond myself.
I will be participating in a Melanoma Walk/Run to support melanoma research and awareness.
This is a very important event for me. I personally had early stage Melanoma removed in 2012 and recently had another scare this year. I am very thankful I caught it early and treatment was “only” an excision. I recently joined a Facebook group and the reality of how serious this “skin cancer” can be hit me hard. I grew up sun bathing without SPF and using tanning beds…I will be walking to help raise awareness and to encourage others to take precautions to prevent Melanoma…..wear SPF, skip the tanning bed, do self checks and see a specialist regularly (if you see something suspicious …get it checked ASAP …don’t wait).
I hear a lot of people say Melanoma is only skin cancer…yes this is true and if caught early…you get lucky with just an excision and scar..which is terrifying enough for me…but if it metastasizes….it can become deadly and is a whole different world of treatment and battle for your life.
My personal challenge begins now. I have committed to raising $__100___ by next weekend 9/20/14. It isn’t much, but every little bit helps and I hope to bring more awareness and help others.
To do this, I need your help! Please consider making a fully tax-deductible donation to help me achieve this goal. Every dollar helps..so just give what you can!!
Melanoma is the fastest growing cancer in the United States and worldwide. One person dies every 60 minutes from melanoma. And, there is no effective medical therapy for metastatic melanoma.
I’m taking on this challenge to do something big that will increase awareness and support research for the CURE.
I am excited to be a part of this 🙂
I hope you’ll support me in my efforts! –
