By teaching your children healthy eating habits, and modeling these behaviors in yourself, you can help your children maintain a healthy weight and normal growth.
Also, the eating habits your children pick up when they are young will help them maintain a healthy lifestyle when they are adults.
10 Tips to help your child develop healthy habits
1. Be a good role model – It is important for parents to make good food choices and be active..you don’t have to be perfect but they will notice your efforts and will know that good health is important.
2. Keep things positive – nobody likes to hear what they can’t do…tell them what they CAN do. Keep it fun and positive. People like to be praised and recognized for their successes. It is important for children and teens to develop a good self-image
3. Get the whole family active ~ evening walks, go the the park, family bike ride
4. Be realistic ~ start with small changes and set achievable goals
5. Limit tv, game, and video time – this leads to a sedentary lifestyle and more snacking
6. Encourage your child to do the physical activities -choose activities that they personally enjoy doing. They will stick with it longer if they love doing it…running, bike riding, playing frisbee, sports, roller skating..find something they love.
7. Pick rewards that are truly rewarding – not video games, food and candy..find other ways to reward your child. Sports equipment, new tennis shoes, clothes, or something they have been really wanting.
8. Make dinner time a family time – Everyone sitting down together helps avoid bad food choices and snacking..get your kids involved in cooking and planning meals. Everyone will develop good eating habits together and the family time is a bonus and just as important.
9. Educate your children on healthy food choices – explain why it is important for their health long term  to make healthy choices with food and to stay active. I don’t mean create an unhealthy obsession about it..but it is important to educate!
10. Stay involved – be an advocate for healthier children. Be an advocate for healthier food choices in your children’s  school.  Alos, make sure your children’s health care providers are monitoring BMI, blood pressure, cholesterol etc.

I am a model, fitness guru, and bikini competitor. I was born in Michigan, but I have lived in Texas most of my life. I consider myself 100% Texan and proud of it. I love being a southern girl where most of the year is warm bikini and beach weather.
