Do you Give your Mind and Body the Relaxation it Needs and Deserves?
Relaxation is perhaps the single most important key to health and well-being. We all get so busy in life with careers, families, hobbies, and activities that we don’t allow our mind and body the opportunity to unwind and relax. We all know we are guilty of it. Relaxation actually reduces stress, has health benefits, and it feels good. Yet, we just do not allow ourselves the time for it in our busy lives. Just like anything else, we have to make it a priority and take the time to make it happen. It can be something as simple as pausing and taking a few deep breaths throughout the day (calm yourself) , stop and do nothing (even if it is just sitting staring into space or daydreaming), stretch (I know I need more of this is my life), listen to music or read a book (do something you enjoy that relaxes you) or lie down and rest (even if it is just for 5 min). It does not require hours out of the day..just start allowing yourself a small amount of time per day to slow down and just breathe!

Did you know that stress increases a hormone called cortisol? Cortisol can cause the body to store more fat….just another reason to make relaxing a priority.
Most diseases are stress related and it is up to us to learn how to minimize the stress and to learn how to cope with it so we do not jeopardize our health.
Suggestions for reducing stress:
Get a good support system ~ Surround yourself with positive supportive people that will listen when needed and help you work through the problem
Have a good attitude ~ It is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it. It is important to learn to accept the things that cannot be changed and find ways to deal with them instead of trying to change and control them. Stay positive and remind yourself that you can handle it and you will get through it. You got this!
Be realistic ~ Recognize your limits. Set practical goals for dealing with situations. Do not create more stress by setting your expectations too high.
Get organized and take charge ~ Get your priorities in order, make a schedule, have a plan. Being unorganized is just adding stress to your life.
Give yourself “me” time ~ even if it is just in small increments throughout the day (stop and take some deep breaths, take yoga, read a book, go for a walk, meditate, enjoy your favorite music, take a hot bath, get a pedicure or massage)..whatever it may be that allows your body and mind to just relax.
Take care of yourself ~ set a routine, rest, eat healthy, stay active, and stay hydrated. DO something everyday that you enjoy. When we feel stressed we tend to not do all these things, we do the opposite (lack of sleep, poor food choices, less activity etc) and weaken our immune system. SO do your best to stay on track and it will help you manage your stress better.
Slow Down ~ Learn to say no. Pick and choose what what you say yes to..make sure it is important and keep your priorities in check. Know your limits and cut down on the things you commit to daily.
Stress is a part of life, it honestly adds flavor, challenge and opportunity to life. You will become stronger and more confident once it is all said and done. It is up to you how you react and deal with stress in your life. SO remember your health, appearance, relationships are all affected by the way you choose to react and deal with it. Every individual and situation is different and you will have to find what works best for you. Relaxation is very effective in dealing with stress and can be done easily if you recognize it and add it into your daily routine.
